Last week, ThingTech returned to NAFA Institute and Expo in Louisville, Kentucky. The National Association for Fleet Administrators (NAFA) is a not-for profit membership society for individuals who manage asset intensive organizations. With worldwide reach, NAFA is well known for being the largest educational and networking event in the fleet management industry.

Throughout the three-day event, thousands of fleet management professionals and suppliers came together to explore current industry trends. Whether you were there for the cutting-edge education, to network, or just to get some cool swag items to take home to your kids, NAFA 2019 really had something for everyone.

The conversation around advancing vehicle technologies to produce actionable intelligence was a common theme for the asset intensive organizations we spoke with. Throughout the public and private sector, there is a common need for a single easy to use solution with deep functionality, a “single pane of glass” if you will.

Networking with fleet managers from around the world, we were able to get an in-depth view of some issues plaguing the industry today. System integration was top of mind for most people, requesting not only CRM and ERP integration, but also OEM (original equipment manufacturer) system integration with key suppliers such as Caterpillar (Product Link), John Deere (JDLink) and Bobcat. The request is essentially for a vendor to provide a single command center able to scale multiple asset classes across all vehicle types and equipment with direct or indirect integration along with full real-time insights, preventative maintenance, inspections and field service management functionality.
